Yum, Yum, Cupcake!

Can I share a funny story that also happens to be story about my son’s lesson on sin and it’s natural consequences? One morning last week, Joshua Lee and I were baking Funfetti cupcakes. I had just pulled the first batch from the oven and placed them on the cooling rack. We were going to frost and sprinkle the cupcakes at a later time. Joshua Lee left the kitchen to play with his toys (or so I thought) and I turned my back to clean out the batter bowl. Amidst dishwashing, I realized an awkward silence in my home, a silence that I knew indicated Joshua Lee was up to something. So, I raised my voice and said, “Joshua Lee, what are you doing? He replies, “Eating.” I ask, “Eating what.” In a confident voice, “Eating this!” At that point, I had to go see what “this” was (though I had a pretty good idea by that point). Upon my entry to the living room, my eyes fell upon a little boy whose face and chest was covered messily in cupcake crumbs. Unbeknownst to me, my little boy had snatched a cupcake right from under my nose! Now, I know many of think that this would call for some sort of discipline, but to be honest, I did not have the heart to! I could barely contain my laughter! It was such a funny scene. So, I sat next to him and told him that he would not be able to have a cupcake with frosting and sprinkles. He seemed okay with it. An hour passed by and I proceeded to frost and sprinkle. When Joshua Lee saw this going on, he (naturally) asked for another cupcake. I reminded him of his previous wrongdoing and it was at that point he came to a sad realization. His wrongdoing caused him to miss out on an even BETTER cupcake! Poor thing, but I don’t think he’ll be taking cupcakes without asking from here on out.
