Super Savings in Groceries this Week
This week I hit up Harris Teeter and Kroger for groceries. HT had some good meat sale and Kroger was having their “Buy 10 Participating Items, Get $5 Off” special. So, with coupons and kids in tow, here’s what I raked in:
Harris Teeter
What I Spent: $19.84
What I Saved: $23.46 (in coupons) and $16.56 (in VIC savings)
What I Bought:
- 2-lb. roll of 80/20 fresh ground beef
- 2 fresh whole chicken fryers
- 2 4 -pk. Activia yogurt
- 1 6-pk. Dannimals yogurt
- 1 4-pk. DanActive smoothies
- 14 Yoplait yogurts
- 5-lb. bunch of bananas
- 2 container Breakstone’s sour cream
Kroger
What I Spent: $12.84
What I Saved:$ 38.51
What I Bought:
- 1 bag Kroger all-purpose flour
- 1 bag Synder’s Hanover Pretzel pieces
- 2 bags Pepperidge Farm Goldfish
- 2 boxes Quaker granola bars
- 1 box Wheat Thin crackers
- 1 package Solo cups
- 2 2-pk. I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter
- 4 8-oz. bags Kraft Natural shredded cheese
- 1 bag Quaker Mini rice cakes
- 3 cans Ro-Tel tomatoes
- 3 cans Hunt’s Tomatoes
Ben also dropped by SuperTarget for me last night to prepare for the snowstorm. He picked up another bag of all-purpose flour (whole wheat was sold out), some fruit and a couple of other small items with a Target giftcard. So, another week and I’ve been able to make it with our $40/week budget. That is encouraging. God is surely providing for us. He is sovereign…even over all the store sales and the coupons that come with the newspaper!

Nice savings. That was brave to take the kids to Kroger’s Mega event. I am sure it can get very busy there during such a big sale.

It really wasn’t too bad at all. My kids come grocery shopping with me all the time, so I think they are very much used to it!

Hi Veronique – LOVE reading your blog! Way to go on your budgeting — we are doing the same. Do you ever shop at ALDI? We have saved I would say about 40% since we started shopping there…you can’t use coupons, but the savings are huge.
Thanks for your inspiration!

Thanks, Becky! I used to shop at ALDI all the time, but ever since I started couponing, I’ve found that I’ve had better savings. I can get so much stuff for free or just cents. Plus, the closet ALDI to us is 30 minutes away. Glad to hear that you are budgeting though! That’s great.

Awesome, Ver! Thanks for sharing! If you haven’t already (I haven’t yet had time to look;-) ) You should do a post on how you coupon & find all these great savings:) I went to HT yesterday & had to call Kenny when I left because of how much I saved! That made me think of you;-) See you 2nite!

Claire, I will make sure to do this. Maybe I’ll have to post some photos of my handy-dandy coupon binder. Hehe. So glad you found some good deals at HT. Way to go, frugal friend!
