What a Helper!
I’m thankful for my dear husband, who sets a good example to our boys what it means to serve others. My four-year-old, JL, must be paying attention to his daddy’s actions because I caught him doing something which blessed me so much the other day!
Monday is “Laundry Day.” We attempt to get all of our laundry done. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t. Whatever the case, JL is my “Laundry Assistant.” It is his job to push the wet clothes into the dryer, to remove the lint from the lint trap and throw it away, to put the dry clothes in a laundry basket and to push this basket to the living room. There the basket remains until I ask him to help me with sorting and folding. Well, on this particular day, I peeked into the living room (because it was suspiciously quiet) after he pushed the clean basket of clothes in there and what do I see? JL taking out all of the cloth napkins from the basket and folding them…WITHOUT MY ASKING! Seriously, tears sprang to my eyes. His desire to serve really touched me because it was a clear evidence of grace in his life. Which means that God is working on my little boy. My constant prayer for both boys is that God would take away their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
Therefore, as much as I am thankful for my husband’s example, I am that much more thankful for Jesus’ example of being a servant…
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 1:2-11
It is because of Christ’s servanthood toward man that I stand today a sinner saved by His precious blood! May you see this today and confess with your tongue that Jesus Christ is Lord.
He’s not folding cloth napkins here, but our prefold cloth diapers.
That red “bracelet” on his wrist is NOT a bracelet. It’s his “watch.”
